“Courageous Culture Care: Reframing the Relationship of Art and Culture”
This discussion will focus on excerpts from the writings of existential psychologist Rollo May and contemporary artist Makoto Fujimura. Both May and Fujimura, although coming from different disciplines, offer unique and refreshing insight on the nature of the relationship between art and culture. Their frameworks will provide context for the second part of our conversation as we consider how historical and contemporary artists have meaningfully engaged with culture.
Works considered: Culture Care: Reconnecting with Beauty for Our Common Life by Makoto Fujimura; The Courage to Create by Rollo May.
